Identification & Verification

The primary function of Raman spectroscopy is to either identify or verify an unknown substance.

This is achieved using a reference spectral library of known minerals. The unknown spectrum will be matched against the reference library spectra to identify the mineral. This can be valuable for delineating visually similar minerals such as lithium bearing silicates.

The Bruker BRAVO Raman can easily be customised. As a user, there is a possibility to add to and create libraries as needed. Further to this, one can look at the spectral features, and their peak positions, width, and height, which can provide further mineralogical insight. This further extraction can also improve upon the automated matching of bulk spectra.
